How To Apply For An Australian Working Holiday Visa

A working holiday visa in Australia is one of the best ways to experience Oz, giving you the opportunity to not only stay in Australia for up to 12 months, but also top up your travel funds through work. But how do you get an Australia Working Holiday Visa? There are a few types of visa which allow you to work within Australia (including certain student visas), however the most common are subclass 417 and subclass 462.

Working Holiday Visa Subclass 417

The 417 Visa can be applied for online, which takes about 30 mins to complete. You pay for the visa up front when submitting it via credit/debit card and you will receive an email once it is approved. This can happen as quickly as 24 hours but can take much longer in some circumstances. To apply for this visa, you must hold a valid passport from a country involved in the Working Holiday Program with Australia.

Eligible countries are:

Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (including British National Overseas passport holders), Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, & United Kingdom.

Working Holiday Visa Subclass 462

The 462 Visa applies to the following nationalities and with the exception of the USA, it cannot be completed online.

Argentina, Bangladesh, Chile, China, People’s Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, USA, & Uruguay.
