Dance on a table at Cheeky Monkeys

You’ve not partied as a backpacker in Byron Bay until you’ve danced on a table at the infamous Cheeky Monkeys! It’s one of the most famous backpacker bars on the East Coast and the perfect place to dance the night away with your fellow travellers.

Bonus points if you wake up with some bruises from falling off them too!

Sunrise/Sunset at the lighthouse

The walk to the most Easterly Point of Australia also includes a stop at Cape Byron Lighthouse – with some incredible views along the coast and amazing beaches to enjoy and cool off at. If you’re an early riser sunrise here is incredible, or for those who aren’t morning people a sunset session is the perfect way to end the day!

Learn To Surf

Byron has some incredible beaches and world class waves for all levels of surfer. It’s also the perfect place to learn to surf too – so book yourself a surf lesson in Byron Bay and go get your stoke on!

Take a day trip to Nimbin

Best described as the Amsterdam on Australia, Nimbin is a weird and unique place to explore! Jump on board the Grasshopper tour bus to Nimbin and head to this alternative, hippie paradise where the locals look like they’ve shrivelled up in the sunshine and the brownies are rather…ummm…magical!

Go kayaking with dolphins

Byron Bay is all about the ocean and nature so one of the most popular things to do in Byron is kayaking with dolphins!

Launch from the beach and head out around the coastline, pass the famous surf spot of “The Pass” and around to Wategos for a warm hot chocolate and some snacks! Your awesome guides will tell you more about the marine life in the area and you’ve got a solid chance of spotting the local dolphins, turtles and even whales!

Scuba dive at Julian Rocks

If you really want to get up close and personal with the marine life then grab make sure you head out to Julian Rocks for a scuba dive!

This marine reserve is home to some incredible creatures – including leopard sharks, grey nurse sharks, manta rays, sea turtles and schools of colourful fish!

Whether you want a certified dive, give scuba diving a go for the first time with an introductory dive or do a full scuba dive course this is one of the best dive sites in Australia!

Enjoy the street music

Byrons alternative and artistic vibes mean the streets are full of the sounds of buskers – so take some time to soak up the sounds when wandering around town!

If you’re super lucky you might even catch and impromptu acoustic set from the likes of Wolfmother or other famous bands who spend time in the Bay!

Ditch your shoes

Barefoot wandering is a Byron way of life so harden up your feet and ditch your footwear – embrace the hippie culture!

Kick back with some serious beach time

Life in Byron Bay is very much focused around the beach so go out an explore the awesome stretches of sand.

From the easily accessible Main Beach to the quieter Cosy Corner and Tallows or even the nudist beach past Belongil – there’s plenty of space to lay out a towel, slap on some sunscreen and enjoy the Aussie heat!
