Packed with shipwrecks, Aussie style BBQs, relaxing under the stars, driving on 75 Mile Beach, exotic rainforest, as well as laughs and friendships to be remembered, this tour will leave you feeling ready to start a life of adventure.

Itinerary

Day 1: Prologue

You must attend a compulsory safety briefing in Noosa the night before your upcoming Fraser Island tour.

Day 2: Noosa

Make your way to Noosa and check into your hostel accommodation! You’ll be staying at this hostel for a total of 2 nights (one before and one after your Fraser Island tour). In the evening, you’ll attend a compulsory safety briefing at your hostel for your upcoming Fraser Island adventure.

Day 3: Fraser Island

Leave your hostel early in the morning and head up to Rainbow Beach where you and the group will take the ferry across to Fraser Island. You will hit the first portion of 75 Mile Beach to Eurong where we head inland towards Lake McKenzie.

Arrive at Lake McKenzie and take a dip in these incredibly pure, clear waters. Words do not do this amazing lake any justice. Drive to Central Station where we eat lunch, walk along the waters of the very special Wanggoolba Creek, and learn Fraser Island’s history.

You then leave for a drive back to 75 Mile Beach and onto your camp. Arrive at your incredible campsite and kick back after a long day or head up to Corrigin Sandblow for an amazing sunset.

Dinner time! Cook a BBQ together with your new Fraser family and spend the night socialising together next to a campfire or under the covered seating area.

Meal(s) included : Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Fraser Island

Wake up early to a breakfast of toast and cereal before getting back in the cars to head further north. Arrive at the Champagne Pools to cleanse under waves crashing over into the natural rock pools, creating the bubbles where it gets its name.

Then, head back to the cars again for a short drive to your next destination. Climb the stunning Indian Head (one of the few rock formations on the island) to spot the amazing marine wildlife that can be seen off of Fraser Island. If luck is on your side, you can normally spot humpback whales (August – October), sharks, sea turtles, dolphins, huge rays, and many schools of tropical fish.

Next, a drive back to your camp for lunch and then onto the next location. A short drive down the beach is the largest creek on the eastern beach, Eli Creek. Take a walk up the boardwalk with a rubber ring and float down these serene waters, which pumps up to 4 million litres of fresh water into the sea every hour. The second to last location of the day is a short drive from Eli Creek and your camp, the Maheno shipwreck. As the sun lowers in the sky watch the rusty wreck against the sea sky and incredible coloured sands seen up the coast.

Finally, a short stop at the Pinnacles on the way back to your camp. Seen from the beach, this sand formation is a prime example of the coloured sands seen all the way up the Fraser coastline.

Arriving back at your camp to take a breather after an amazing day, wash away the sand in the amazing amenities block just a short walk from our campsite……then more food! As part of your Fraser family, you get to cook spaghetti bolognaise together with garlic bread followed by another night of socialising under some of the southern hemisphere’s most spectacular stars.

Meal(s) included : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Fraser Island/Noosa

Wake up for your last day on Fraser to another quick and simple breakfast before setting off to our final location on the island. Drive a moderate distance down the Eastern Beach to the entrance of Lake Wabby. Here, we will walk for around 40-45 mins down a beautiful sand track through the bush and out onto the Hammerstone Sandblow. Located a short walk along the sand blow, Lake Wabby is the deepest lake on Fraser Island, so be sure to take a dip in its healing waters and kick back next to its shores. After our lunch on the beach, it is time to make our way back to the barge and Rainbow Beach. Arrive back at your accommodation in Noosa and get ready for one last night with your new Fraser family!

Frequently asked questions

How do I access Fraser Island?

As Fraser Island no bridges from the mainland, it can be accessed one of two way: by boat or by air. Most people access the island by barge or ferry, leaving from River Heads near Hervey Bay or Inskip Point near Rainbow Beach.rnrnEach tour company is different and leaves from different departure points, so make sure you confirm which point your tour is leaving from!

Can I drive on Fraser Island if I have never driven a 4-Wheel Drive before?

If you are over the age of 21, and you have a current open drivers licence, then yes. All tag along tours conduct a comprehensive briefing prior to the trip departure (usually the day prior). Your t our guide will give you an outline of the trip at the briefing, as well as plenty of information and guidance regarding driving along the beach in a 4-wheel drive. Please note that different tours have different restrictions and age limits for drivers.

Can you buy food on Fraser Island?

There are several shops on Fraser Island where you can purchase food and supplies. You will find everything you need here on the island, but keep in mind, it’s more expensive than on the mainland. Don’t be surprised by the mark-up in price, as it’s a seller’s market on Fraser!

Are dingoes dangerous?

Dingoes, like any other wild animal, can be dangerous! But if you follow the rules put in place by your guides, you will likely find yourself well out of harm’s way and able to enjoy these beautiful animals from a safe distance. The first and most important rule is to remember that they are in fact, wild animals, and should be treated as such. They are not to be approached and under no circumstances should anyone try to pet or feed them – they are NOT pets and can and will attack is provoked.

Is there anything to do in Airlie Beach?

There’s plenty to do in Airlie Beach! Visit the markets on Saturday mornings along the beach for a souvenir or gifts for friends and family at home and go shopping along the main street. You can even hire a scooter or car and go exploring and see all of the hidden surprises along the Whitsunday Coast.

How long does it take to get to the Great Barrier Reef?

Cruising time is approximately 2 hours from Airlie Beach on the Whitsunday Coast or 1 1/2 hours from Hamilton Island. Alternatively, a seaplane or helicopter flight takes approximately 30 minutes direct.

Are there marine stingers in The Whitsundays? Can I swim?

Yes, you can swim in the Whitsunday waters however we recommend wearing a full-length lycra suit during the higher risk period (October – May) which reduces the risk of stings and is great sun protection too. Of the 8 million users of the Great Barrier Reef/North Queensland region each year, the percentage of Irukandji stings is minimal and far fewer Box Jellyfish stings occur. Whitsundays locals often swim during the ‘stinger season’ without any stinger suit protection, however, it is best to heed the advice of your tour operator and wear a stinger suit to ensure increased protection and safety.
