My Fraser Island Tour with Palace Adventures

Want to find out more about about what it’s like to go for a Fraser Island tour with Palace Adventures?  We sent one of our call centre team Carole to find out what it’s all about!

Fraser Island is one of the top destinations on the East Coast and after my experience I can definitely see where it gets it top rating. If tearing up the sand in a 4X4 isn’t epic enough, the stunning freshwater lakes and gorgeous rainforest will get you going!

To make my experience what it was, I jumped on the Palace Adventures Tag Along Tour and I can’t imagine having done it any other way. It provided an authentic experience of 4X4 around the Island without the worry of getting bogged, working out the tides or even just trying to figure
out where the hell everything is!

We started the tour with a briefing the night before. Getting great tips about travelling around the island, how to actually operate a 4X4 and being informed about anything we may need to bring. It’s also a great opportunity to have one too many drinks with the legends you’ll be spending the next 3 days with. One of the advantageous of Palace Adventures opposed to some of the other tour companies is you can BYO alcohol. For someone travelling on a tight budget, with a large appetite for wine, this saved me a fair bit of cash!

On the First day of the tour we headed to Rainbow Beach to pick up our 4X4 and get into our groups for each car. In our convoy, with the guides car in front, we headed to the ferry to get to Fraser. This is one of the best opportunities on the trip to spot dolphins and we were lucky enough to spot a few throughout our 3 days.

It’s a little surreal as you drive off the ferry onto 75 Mile Beach. No roads, no ferry terminal just a whole lot of sand and the beautiful surrounding ocean
and forests. They call the beach The Highway as this will be the main road we take to almost all of our destinations! Driving on the sand is a big highlight of the tour, all the bumping, sliding and fighting the sand just to keep in a straight line. It’s truly epic! All of this while blasting your crowd favourites on the stereo, spotting Dingos and having great banter with the other cars through the walkie talkies.

Throughout the 3 days we visited a number of top destinations. These include Eli Creek, Lake Wabby, Indian Head, Champaign Pools, the Maheno shipwreck and of course Lake McKenzie. Palace Adventures really knows how to tick everything off your bucket list! Having a great tour guide meant we gained knowledge about the island and wasted no time in getting to each location.

Personally my favourite spot had to be Lake McKenzie, with the white silica sand that acts as a filter to give the water it’s amazing clarity. It is the perfect spot to chill out after a bumpy ride through the rainforest.

Palace tops off the adventure with an awesome camping experience, giving you that full island lifestyle. The campsites are clean and comfortable with a large communal area for eating, drinking and playing games in the evenings. It was a short walk to the beach and plenty of opportunities to spot Dingos throughout your stay. Waking up to the birds chirping and waves crashing was an added bonus!

For anyone planning to travel to Fraser Island and make the most of their time there, I would highly recommend jumping on a tour with Palace Adventures. My experience was stress free, informative, full of beauty and packed with adventure!
