Adelaide to Uluru Adventure Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Adelaide to Flinders Ranges

After a 6am start and a coffee stop in the coastal town of Port Wakefield, you’ll be arriving into Mount Remarkable National Park for a wonderful morning hike at Alligator Gorge in the Southern Flinders Ranges. Visit the quaint town of Quorn for lunch and to view the Pichi Richi railway, before heading into Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park for another hike at Arkaroo Rock, which is known to be a significant cultural site for the local Adnyamathanha people. Feel connected to nature in a Welcome to Country experience before settling down at Skytrek Willow Springs Station for a secluded night of bush camping. Watch incredible night skies above you as you fall asleep surrounded by ancient landscapes.

Day 2: Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park

Experience incredible hikes through the ancient Ikara-Flinders Ranges to view river red gum trees, waterholes, spot fossils, and more. Take part in some meaningful conservation work within the ranges and learn about local flora and fauna and the importance to the local people and landscape. After lunch, enjoy a scenic drive at Brachina Gorge before stopping for dinner at an iconic country pub and then back to camp for another night under the twinkling skies.

Day 3: Flinders Ranges to William Creek Via Oodnadatta Track

Today brings an exciting off the beaten path journey alog the iconic Oodnadatta Track, one of Australia’s most renowned unsealed roads. Travel through otherworldly desert scenery, past Lake Eyre and Anna Creek Station – the World’s largest Cattle Creek Station, roughly the size of Belgium. Tonight’s camp will be in the tiny outback settlement of William Creek. With a population of 10, this truly is the middle of nowhere. Enjoy a drink in the South Australian Outback before bed.

Day 4: William Creek to Coober Pedy

Travel through sunbaked moonlike landscape to Coober Pedy – the famous underground town known as the opal capital of Australia. With a unique way of life, enjoy the mining museums and an opal cutting demonstration, before visiting Josephine’s Gallery and Kangaroo Orphanage, home to baby kangaroos and world class Aboriginal art. Enjoy some free time to explore the town before a night underground in a unique bunkhouse, keeping you cool in the desert heat.

Day 5: Cooper Pedy to Watarkka/Kings Canyon

Today you’ll be crossing into the Northern Territory, past iconic red landscapes and the famous Dingo fence. Stop at the Kanky Breakaways conservation park before heading into Watarrka National Park, home to the incredible Kings Canyon, which you’ll be exploring in full over the next two days. Enjoy a relaxing evening at Kings Creek Station for camp and watch a stunning desert sunset.

Day 6: Watarrka/Kings Canyon to Uluru

An early start today brings you the most magical King Canyon rim walk, an unforgettable experience. Surrounded by 300 metre sandstone walls, there’s plenty of hidden waterholes, forests, chasms and caverns to explore. Visit Priscilla’s Crack with stunning 360 degree views, made famous from the movie Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Journey through the sandstone domes of the Lost City and through lush greenery in the aptly named Garden of Eden – true desert oasis. After lunch, head through to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park to catch the most spectacular sunset over the giant red monolith, before setting up camp for another night under billions of stars.

Day 7: Uluru

Wake up surrounded by red earth as you watch an incredible sunrise over Uluru. Watch in awe as the sunlight hits the red rock and plays with the colours of the landscape. Then it’s time to head to the natural wonder itself, as you enjoy a guided 10km Uluru base walk. At 348 metres high and over 550 million years old, Uluru holds a powerful presence you won’t forget any time soon. Connect and learn its stories, as you explore the tranquil waterholes and hidden caves. After lunch stop by the Cultural Centre to deepen your understanding of Uluru-Kata Tjuta, and join an exciting dot painting workshop run by a talented local Anangu artist. Learn ancient symbols and create your own artwork to take home.

Day 8: Kata Tjuta to Yulara

Your last day brings a final breathtaking Kata Tjuta sunrise. Rising 546 metres above the surrounding plain, the views of the ‘many heads’ are a defining feature of the outback. Explore the mystical ravines of Kata Tjuta on a magnificent Valley of the Winds guided walk, a 3 hour circuit with picturesque views of the impressive landscape. Your epic journey ends travelling to Yulara, reminiscing on the incredible sights and stories of the Australian red centre.

Cancellation & Refund Policy: Refunds will be processed according to the following time frames.
Cancellations within 3 Days of the start date incur a 100.00% fee.
Between 4 Day and 14 Days incur a 50.00% fee.
Between 15 Days and 30 Days incur a 25.00% fee.
If you join a tour after departure or leave before completion, no refunds will be made.

 

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to reconfirm my bookings?

All Untamed Escapes bookings must be reconfirmed 48 hours in advance by contacting your tour provider directly using the contact information listed on your tour voucher.

What should i do if my trip is cancelled due to bad weather?

You may either re-schedule directly with the supplier or you can email our support team on [email protected] and include your voucher number, name of product you booked, planned departure date and your contact details. Once you’ve emailed us, you can drop us a line at +61 2 5633 1149.

Do you book tours with flexible dates? If so, how long are they valid for?

Yes, we do have open dated/flexible tickets available. Most tour vouchers are valid for 12 months from date of purchase, however please be aware that you may be subject to supplier price fluctuations. All ticket validity is specified on the tour voucher. If you are unsure of the validity of your voucher, just ask one of our wonderful staff.

What do I do if I need help with an existing booking?

Some tours have extra costs and you should be aware that there may be added expenses. These expenses will differ for each service provider, but some of the more usual extras are: EMC tax, stinger suit hire, luggage storage, sleeping bag hire, linen hire, national park fee, food, insurance, accommodation, equipment hire, petrol levy, etc. We will alert you to extra costs to the extent reasonably practicable. However, you must also check with each individual service provider when you re-confirm your booking.

Do I need travel insurance?

We endorse the recommendation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that all travellers take out travel insurance. If you already have travel insurance, please understand that it is your responsibility to ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all of the adventure style travel you have booked with us.

Do you offer payment plans?

Absolutely, we understand that paying off a big trip in one go isn’t always that easy. We offer flexible payment plans to suit all types of travellers with zero interest or fee’s (minimum $100AUD deposit required).

How do I know if my trip is BYO?

Most tour vouchers will specify if your trip is BYO however we recommend asking your tour provider if your trip is BYO when you reconfirm your booking 48 hours prior to departure.
