Litchfield National Park in The Northern Territory is a must see. Beautiful rainforests and magnificent waterfalls cover the landscape and it’s one of the highlights for any trip to the Top End.

But if you’re kicking around Darwin and don’t have heaps of time to spare you can still soak up some of the awesome experiences it has to offer with a day trip to Litchfield.

And this day trip combines all the beauty of Litchfield National Park with another of Darwins top to do’s – a jumping crocodile cruise!

On this whirlwind trip you’ll experience spring fed waterfalls, monsoonal rain forests, magnetic termite mounds and more! Swim in some of the best pools that Litchfield National Park has to offer such as Wangi Falls and Florence Falls with a group of like minded travellers and knowledgeable tour guides.

Head out from Darwin and into the national park to discover the Cathedral termite mounds, hike along scenic bush walks before cooling down in the swimming holes at Wangi and Florences falls.

Then after a big lunch surrounded by the bushland check out the natural rock formation of Buley Rockholes because cruising the Adelaide River to meet the jumping crocodiles – just make sure you have your camera ready!

On Thursdays and Sunday you also have the option to be dropped off at the famous Mindil Beach Markets – the perfect end to an awesome day exploring some of the gems of the Northern Territory.

Itinerary

Begin your 1 Day Litchfield & Jumping Crocs Tour departing Darwin from 7am. Head straight for the mighty Adelaide River – where, from the safety of the tour boat, you will see prehistoric reptiles being fed in their natural environment. After your cruise continue your Litchfield & Jumping Crocs Tour and make your way to Litchfield National Park for a fun day of bush walking, swimming, exploring and relaxing. Small groups with an active itinerary make for a trip to remember. A short drive from Darwin City and you can experience spring fed waterfalls, monsoonal rain forests, magnetic termite mounds and more! Well known for its natural beauty, Florence Falls is an amazing location within Litchfield which provides us with a short bush walk and two amazing waterfalls. Buleys Rockhole is a great spot for the group to chillout and relax. Not much walking and plenty of fun to have in the water. Buley Rocks consists of a series of rock holes that flow downstream to a larger rock pool at the bottom. Tolmer Falls, bit of a bush walk through Litchfield’s breathtaking landscapes. Here follow a track leading to a lookout with spectacular views over Tolmer Falls, which is now reserved for the family of bats that dwell within the nearby caves. An impressive view! Wangi Falls, one of the more well known spots in Litchfield, Wangi Falls is a short walk and lots of swimming and playing in the large waterfall that awaits. Enjoy a fresh picnic lunch including cold meat & salad after an exhilarating swim in the cool, spring fed, waterfalls of Wangi Falls. There are also a series of board walks nearby for exploring and learning about the Northern Territory natural wildlife and flora. Cathedral Termite Mounds home to one of the longest living insects on earth, up to 100 years old these structures are unique to the northern parts of Australia. Late afternoon we head back to Darwin arriving back to Darwin at approximately 6.30pm.
