The Shotover Canyon Swing is an essential adrenaline activity in Queenstown! It is the worlds highest commercial cliff jump and not for the feint hearted.
The history of cliff diving dates back almost 250 years to the Hawaiian Islands. Stories say that the king of Maui – Kahekili II – would force his warriors to leap feet first off a cliff to land in the water below. It was a way to show the king that they were loyal, bold and fearless. Later cliff diving evolved into a competition in which participants were judged for style. Good scores were being awarded for making as small of a splash as possible when they entered the water.
The cliff jump you’ll be doing has changed a little in the past 250 years. You’ll launch yourself of a 109 meter high cliff, experience a 60m free fall, then swing over 200 meters out into the stunning Shotover Canyon.
