Eyre Peninsula and Flinders Ranges Adventure Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Adelaide to Ikara-Flinders Ranges

Departing from Adelaide, your amazing tour starts heading north to Mount Remarkable National Park for your first hike of the trip, Alligator Gorge. With bright ochre quartz cliffs towering around, this is an exciting start to your journey and a must for anyone visiting the area. After a picnic lunch, travel a little further north to reach Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, an area so unique the fossils found here inspired geologists to add the Ediacaran period to the geologic timeline of Earth’s history. When you arrive at your campsite for the night, Wilpena Pound, you’ll be welcomed with a Adnyamathanha Welcome to Country ceremony. Take in the local knowledge, traditional stories, and Aboriginal songs before enjoying dinner by the campfire and your first night under a sky full of stars.

Day 2: Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park

This morning, wake up to the sounds of nature and embark on the Hills Homestead walk after breakfast. Follow the Wilpena Creek through towering river red gums and pines as you meander through the peaceful Pound Gap. Head up the Wangara Lookout and keep an eye out for echidnas in the underleaf while surrounded by panoramic views of the Pound. This afternoon, head out on the Arkaroo Rock trail which offers breathtaking views of the Chace Range, bringing you to the culturally significant Arkaroo Rock which depicts incredible rock art of the Yura Muda (Dreaming or creation story) of Ikara. Take in the enchanting stories and surroundings, before heading back to camp for another night under the stars.

Day 3: Flinders Ranges to Port Lincoln

Say goodbye to the Flinders Ranges and take in an amazing 360-degree immersive panorama of the area at the Jeff Morgan Gallery in the tiny town of Hawker. Take a lunch break in Port Augusta and visit Cowell to view some amazing silo art. Arrive in Port Lincoln, Australia’s Seafood Capital, by late afternoon and stroll around the town before making your way to our special campsite at Mikkira Station. Mikkira is home to approximately 170 wild koalas, making it the only koala population in the Eyre Peninsula, as well as numerous kangaroos and emus. Before dinner at the campsite, swim and enjoy the sunset at a nearby beach and soak it all in.

Day 4: Port Lincoln and Surrounds

Australia is known for its surfing culture, so today, put on a wetsuit and join a two-hour learn-to-surf class at Fisheries Bay. The water here is calm and clear, making it a perfect spot for beginners to learn. If surfing isn’t your thing, you can swim or just lounge on the beach. Take a 14-kilometer scenic coastal drive along Whalers Way to see the stunning coastline and cliffs that have been sculpted for millions of years by the power of the Southern Ocean. Then, take part in a meaningful regeneration experience at Mikkira Station, supporting vital koala conservation efforts. Your collaboration with organizations here will have an impact on the preservation of the manna gum trees, which are a vital habitat for the koalas at Mikkira Station.

Day 5: Coffin Bay

Spend the day exploring Coffin Bay and Port Lincoln. Take a hike along a portion of the Parnkalla Trail along the coast of the National Park,before unwinding on the beautiful white sand beaches surrounded by wildlife. You also have the option to put on some waders and take part in the Coffin Bay Oyster Farm Tour, since a visit to Coffin Bay wouldn’t be complete without sampling the area’s renowned oysters. Visitors wishing to get up close and personal with the aquatic life in Port Lincoln have the option of swimming with the amiable Australian sea lions or experiencing a Great White Shark encounter. These are optional extras that must be reserved directly with Calypso Star Charters as they are not part of the itinerary. After our final night together at camp at Mikkira Station, return to Port Lincoln and indulge in a little wine tasting at Boston Bay Wines.

Day 6: Port Lincoln to Adelaide

Set up camp and head to Port Lincoln for the enchanting hike up Stamford Hill after breakfast. This strenuous but worthwhile walk, ranked among the 40 Great Australian Short Walks, offers breathtaking views of Boston Bay, Port Lincoln, and Lincoln National Park. Take one last look at Port Lincoln from Winters Hill Lookout before heading out of town. After that, as you travel to Lucky Bay, stop for a barbecue lunch at Arno Bay. At 2:30 pm, your Searoad Ferry will depart for Wallaroo on the Yorke Peninsula, across the Spencer Gulf. Enjoy a cup of coffee from the onboard café while unwinding and taking in the two and a half hour gulf cruise. Once in Wallaroo, hop on the bus and start reminiscing about your epic journey, arriving in Adelaide at around 8pm.

Cancellation & Refund Policy: Refunds will be processed according to the following time frames.
Cancellations within 3 Days of the start date incur a 100.00% fee.
Between 4 Day and 14 Days incur a 50.00% fee.
Between 15 Days and 30 Days incur a 25.00% fee.
If you join a tour after departure or leave before completion, no refunds will be made.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to reconfirm my bookings?

All Untamed Escapes bookings must be reconfirmed 48 hours in advance by contacting your tour provider directly using the contact information listed on your tour voucher.

What should i do if my trip is cancelled due to bad weather?

You may either re-schedule directly with the supplier or you can email our support team on [email protected] and include your voucher number, name of product you booked, planned departure date and your contact details. Once you’ve emailed us, you can drop us a line at +61 2 5633 1149.

Do you book tours with flexible dates? If so, how long are they valid for?

Yes, we do have open dated/flexible tickets available. Most tour vouchers are valid for 12 months from date of purchase, however please be aware that you may be subject to supplier price fluctuations. All ticket validity is specified on the tour voucher. If you are unsure of the validity of your voucher, just ask one of our wonderful staff.

What do I do if I need help with an existing booking?

Some tours have extra costs and you should be aware that there may be added expenses. These expenses will differ for each service provider, but some of the more usual extras are: EMC tax, stinger suit hire, luggage storage, sleeping bag hire, linen hire, national park fee, food, insurance, accommodation, equipment hire, petrol levy, etc. We will alert you to extra costs to the extent reasonably practicable. However, you must also check with each individual service provider when you re-confirm your booking.

Do I need travel insurance?

We endorse the recommendation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that all travellers take out travel insurance. If you already have travel insurance, please understand that it is your responsibility to ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all of the adventure style travel you have booked with us.

Do you offer payment plans?

Absolutely, we understand that paying off a big trip in one go isn’t always that easy. We offer flexible payment plans to suit all types of travellers with zero interest or fee’s (minimum $100AUD deposit required).

How do I know if my trip is BYO?

Most tour vouchers will specify if your trip is BYO however we recommend asking your tour provider if your trip is BYO when you reconfirm your booking 48 hours prior to departure.
