Itinerary
Day 1-2: Brisbane
Welcome to Brisbane, the Sunshine State’s vibrant capital! Spend your first day exploring riverside parks, cafés, and the city’s buzzing nightlife before checking into your accommodation and settling into the backpacker energy.
Kick things off with a big adventure day out from the city. Choose your experience: snorkel the iconic Tangalooma Wrecks on Moreton Island, visit the world-famous Australia Zoo to see Australia’s wildlife up close, or enjoy a relaxing Brisbane River cruise. Return to the city for one final night out in Brisbane.
Day 3: Noosa
Travel north to the stunning coastal town of Noosa. Check in, explore golden beaches and boutique cafés, and soak up the relaxed Sunshine Coast vibe. In the evening, attend your Fraser Island safety briefing as the excitement builds for one of Australia’s greatest adventures.
Day 4-6: K’gari (Fraser Island)
Set off from Noosa and head to Rainbow Beach before jumping into your 4WD adventure across K’gari (Fraser Island), the world’s largest sand island. Cruise 75 Mile Beach, swim in Eli Creek, explore the Maheno Shipwreck, and discover rainforest at Central Station and Wanggoolba Creek.
Camp under the stars on the beach with your group, swim at Lake Wabby or Lake Birrabeen, and take in epic views from Indian Head Lookout and the Champagne Pools. Finish your island journey at Lake McKenzie, enjoying the white silica sands and crystal-clear water before returning to the mainland.
Day 7: Noosa
Wake up back in Noosa and hit the waves with a surf lesson on Main Beach, perfect for beginners and first-timers. The rest of the day is yours to relax, explore, or continue practicing your new surf skills along the coast.
Day 8: Town of 1770 (Agnes Water)
Head north to Agnes Water, home of Australia’s most beginner-friendly surf break. Take part in a morning surf lesson and catch your first waves before continuing your journey. Later, jump on your overnight bus and travel north toward Airlie Beach.
Day 9: Airlie Beach
Arrive in Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsundays. Check into your accommodation, explore the tropical lagoon, and enjoy the laid-back backpacker town before gearing up for your island sailing adventure.
Day 10-12: Whitsundays
Set sail through the breathtaking Whitsunday Islands. Snorkel vibrant reefs, swim in turquoise waters, and relax on deck as you cruise through paradise. Anchor in secluded bays and enjoy freshly prepared meals while surrounded by ocean views.
Hike to Hill Inlet Lookout and walk down onto the world-famous Whitehaven Beach. Spend your days snorkelling, exploring beaches, and soaking in one of the most beautiful places on earth before returning to Airlie Beach for one final night.
Day 13-14: Cairns
Arrive in tropical Cairns and dive into the relaxed, backpacker-friendly atmosphere. Explore the lagoon, nightlife, and waterfront before your final big adventure.
Head out on a small-group Great Barrier Reef experience, snorkelling or diving among vibrant coral gardens and marine life. Enjoy a chilled, scenic day on the reef before returning to Cairns by sunset, wrapping up your East Coast Express in unforgettable style.

What is the best way to travel Australia?
There is definitely no wrong way. We recommend either taking a WHIMIT or Hop on Hop off bus pass such as Greyhound or renting a campervan with some mates and hitting the open road. If you feel like getting pretty adventurous and want to get amongst the true Australian terrain, a 4WD may be better suited for you. Enquire now and we can help you find the most suitable transport option.
Do I need insurance when travelling to Australia?
Before your visit, you should arrange a sufficient and helpful medical and travel insurance. You should make sure the policies are adequate to cover costs for any possible emergency, including ambulance, boat, or helicopter rescue.
What do I need to know about driving in Australia?
Australians drive on the left hand side of the road. The steering wheel is on the right hand side of the car. Maximum speed limits in cities and towns do not exceed 60km/h and on highways/country roads, they range from 100km/h-110km/h. Strict drink-driving laws apply and drivers/passengers must wear seat belts at all times.
Does every town have hostel or budget friendly accommodation?
Most small cities and towns do offer hostels or some type of budget accommodation, but if not, we recommend being prepared with appropriate camping gear in case you want to go off the normal track.
What if something comes up and I can't make my tour?
We get it. Life is all about the unexpected, especially when you are travelling. If you are unable to make your pre-arranged tour you will need to reach out to our support email so we can give you a helping hand. In all cases we strongly recommend having a valid travel insurance policy which covers you for unexpected cancellations.
What is the best time of year to travel the East Coast?
It really depends on where you are going! Summers (December-February) brings the warmest temperatures, but in Far North Queensland, the cooly dry season from April to November is the best time to visit. Winter in Australia can get wet, but hardly every drops before 12C.rnrnThere are plenty of things to do in Australia year round, so it is quite difficult to get bored with loads of festivals, nightlife, adventures, and beautiful natural sights to see.
