She was incredibly sweet, welcoming, and genuinely took the time to get to know us, our interests, and what we wanted to get out of our trip. We’re from Canada, and she made us feel right at home. There was absolutely no pressure to book anything. She simply went above and beyond, answering all our questions, sending us helpful links, and giving us so many great recommendations. Her enthusiasm for Byron Bay and all the experiences it has to offer was contagious. One of the things she recommended was whale watching, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. She made sure we knew everything we needed before going, and we were so excited that we actually went back into Happy Travels the next day just to tell her all about it! Jemma is such a bubbly, kind person, and you can tell she genuinely loves what she does. If you’re in Byron Bay, definitely stop by Happy Travels and ask for Jemma. Whether you’re looking to book an activity, find somewhere to eat, or just get some local recommendations, she’ll point you in the right direction. Thank you again:) Read More

Frequently asked questions

Got a question?

Can i leave a review on Google?

Yes! Absolutely, we have over 20 locations where you can leave us a review on Google. If you booked online, simply visit our Online Google Reviews Page to read existing reviews or leave us a new one!

How long has Happy Travels been around?

We have been creating epic travel experiences for over 25 years. From humble beginnings in Cairns with our first branch to now spanning over 25 branches world-wide across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

How many people travel with Happy Travels each year?

We have over 75,000 people use our travel services each year.

Where is Happy Travels located?

We have stores all around Australia and our support team is available 7 days a week. We also have teams in the UK to make it easier booking in different time zones.

Are there any hidden fees in my custom package?

No, our service is completely transparent, and there are no hidden fees. Your travel specialist will provide a clear breakdown of all costs. We never sell a tour above the RRP set by our suppliers.

Can I book a custom package with a flexible date?

Yes, you can book all of our packages with flexible ‘open dated’ tickets or with pre-booked dates.

Can I include transport in my custom East Coast package?

Absolutely! Choose your preferred method of travel in our East Coast Package Builder, between bus transport, car or campervan hire, or other methods of travel, and your travel specialist will include it in your quote. They can also help you decide the best travel option for you. For more inspo, check out our travel guide for the Greyhound Bus Pass to see if it’s the right fit for you.

What type of accommodation will be included in my package?

We usually work with hostels and budget accommodation and can quote you for either multi-share dorms or private rooms depending on your budget or preference.

How far in advance should I book my East Coast trip?

We recommend booking as early as possible to secure popular experiences, especially for peak travel seasons. It’s best to give yourself at least 2 months to plan ahead.

Can I meet other travellers through my custom package?

Yes! One of the best things about working with so many backpackers is how often they make life-long friends on their travels. Many of our packages include group activities and social accommodations, making it easy to meet others along the way.

Is there a minimum or maximum length for a custom package?

No, your trip can be as short or long as you’d like. Our packages are fully customizable to fit your travel timeline and personal preferences.

What are the payment options for my custom package?

We offer flexible, zero-fee payment plans, so you can pay in instalments at your convenience. No full payment is required upfront, just a $200 deposit.

Can I make changes to my itinerary after I’ve booked my package?

Yes – as long as you give enough notice. Our flexible booking options allow for adjustments based on availability. You can reach out to our support team any time to modify dates, activities, or accommodations – just be aware that any changes or cancellations may come with a supplier’s cancellation or admin fee.

What happens if my travel plans change at the last minute?

We understand that plans can change. With 24/7 support and 20 physical locations along the East Coast, our team is here to assist with last-minute changes where possible, just be wary of supplier cancellation and admin fees.

What if I need help while I’m travelling on my custom package?

Our dedicated support team is available 7 days a week to assist with any issues. Plus, our 20 in store locations along the East Coast mean there’s always someone nearby to help you in person if needed.

Do you offer custom Australian packages?

Yes, simply click HERE to access our custom Australia package builder.

Do I need travel insurance for my East Coast trip?

We endorse the recommendation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that all travellers take out travel insurance. If you already have travel insurance, please understand that it is your responsibility to ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all of the adventure style travel you have booked with us.

World Nomads travel insurance policies offer coverage for more than 150 activities. Get a quote, make a claim, or buy or extend your policy while on the road.
