Frequently asked questions

What are Byron Bay's top beaches?

While lots of tourists get a bit lazy and just go for what is right in front of them, we recommend living the local life and venturing to the surrounds to enjoy the sun and waves. These include Wategos Beach, Tallows Beach, and the strand of beaches representing paradise on a post card in Broken Head; Whites Beach, Kings Beach, and Brays Beach.

Are there a lot of National Parks in Byron Bay?

Not only are there a lot, but most of Byron’s beaches and most of the area is covered in National Park territory, such as Arakwal, which is sacred to the Bundjalung Nation. Co-managed by National Parks and the traditional owners, Arakwal features 3km of stunning coastline boarded by sand dunes and is a haven for birds and wildlife. We definitely recommend venturing in the parks in these areas and getting lost for a day.

Where can I catch some music in Byron Bay?

Byron is a huge mecca for music, with everything from acoustic buskers, punk rock shows, and local DJ’s and those visiting from around the world. You can catch some amazing gigs in the main streets of Byron on Jonson Street where you will find buskers pouring out of the laneways with crowds surrounding them and cheering. If you want a venue vibe, jump into the Beach Hotel or The Northern Hotel’s back room.

Byron Bay is also host to major music events throughout the year including Byron Bay Bluesfest held over the Easter long weekend and Splendour In The Grass in July.

When can we see whales in Byron Bay?

Get there during the winter seasons! This is the best time to see some of Earth’s wildlife wonders. You should be getting to Byron between the months of May and November to make sure you catch these spectacles. As the country’s most easterly point, this means this spot is a top migration spot for whales.

When can we catch the markets in Byron Bay?

There are heaps of beautiful markets to check out while you’re in Byron Bay from farmers to arts. Here’s an outline below:

  • Byron Community Market = First Sunday of every month
  • Farmers Market = Thursday 8AM-11AM
  • Artisan Market = Saturday 4PM-9PM (only from October to March)
  • Beachside Market = 4 times a year in January, Easter, Mid July, and late September (keep an eye out for posters that will let you know)

Where are some great spots for quality nightlife in Byron Bay?

After a lazy day on the beach, a surf lesson, or venturing into the hinterlands of Byron Bay, this beachside paradise has more than a handful of options for a night out for the books. Check out some of our suggestions below:

  • The Beach Hotel (aka The Beachie) – right on the beach, great for sunset, with live bands/DJs
  • The Northern – Three rooms of fun, including singing to classics on the piano, and a whole lot of moshing in the back room for some punk and rock & roll.
  • The Rails – The local spot, great for live music, and firepits in the winter.
  • Casa Luna – Great to experience a mixed range of world electronic music and acoustic live music (depending on the day of the week).
  • The Balcony – for those looking for something a bit more sophisticated
  • Lover’s Lane – From the guys who brought you Penny Lane in Bali, dancing the night a way is just up a flight of stairs while feeling some Euro vibes.
  • Saltwater Social Club – Funky and Disco classics, pool all night, and a balcony to meet some new friends and banter with.
  • Woody’s – The place to be for backpackers from around the world to break the ice
  • Loft – Think white washed walls overlooking the waves at Main Beach

Do I need travel insurance?

We endorse the recommendation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that all travelers take out travel insurance. If you already have Travel Insurance please understand that it is your responsibility to ensure that your Travel Insurance covers you for all of the adventure style travel you have booked with us.

Can I book a package but travel in the reverse direction?

What is the best way to travel Australia?

There is definitely no wrong way. We recommend either taking a WHIMIT or Hop on Hop off bus pass such as Greyhound or renting a campervan with some mates and hitting the open road.
