While lots of tourists get a bit lazy and just go for what is right in front of them, we recommend living the local life and venturing to the surrounds to enjoy the sun and waves. These include Wategos Beach, Tallows Beach, and the strand of beaches representing paradise on a post card in Broken Head; Whites Beach, Kings Beach, and Brays Beach.
Not only are there a lot, but most of Byron’s beaches and most of the area is covered in National Park territory, such as Arakwal, which is sacred to the Bundjalung Nation. Co-managed by National Parks and the traditional owners, Arakwal features 3km of stunning coastline boarded by sand dunes and is a haven for birds and wildlife. We definitely recommend venturing in the parks in these areas and getting lost for a day.
Byron is a huge mecca for music, with everything from acoustic buskers, punk rock shows, and local DJ’s and those visiting from around the world. You can catch some amazing gigs in the main streets of Byron on Jonson Street where you will find buskers pouring out of the laneways with crowds surrounding them and cheering. If you want a venue vibe, jump into the Beach Hotel or The Northern Hotel’s back room.
Byron Bay is also host to major music events throughout the year including Byron Bay Bluesfest held over the Easter long weekend and Splendour In The Grass in July.
Get there during the winter seasons! This is the best time to see some of Earth’s wildlife wonders. You should be getting to Byron between the months of May and November to make sure you catch these spectacles. As the country’s most easterly point, this means this spot is a top migration spot for whales.
There are heaps of beautiful markets to check out while you’re in Byron Bay from farmers to arts. Here’s an outline below:
