Leaving Hobart, your adventure through Lutruwita/Tasmania begins at Mount Field National Park, part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Stroll among towering eucalyptus trees and marvel at the cascading beauty of Russell Falls. Traveling through the Western Wilds, take in the breathtaking landscapes of Lake St Clair, Australia’s deepest freshwater lake, and the rugged Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park.

Along the way, uncover Tasmania’s rich mining history in Queenstown before reaching the harbourside village of Strahan, where we’ll settle in for the next two nights.

Overnight: Strahan

Today, choose your own West Coast adventure. For those seeking an active experience, join a guided walk through lush temperate rainforest and across the vast, windswept Henty Sand Dunes. Prefer a more leisurely pace? Take the optional Gordon River Cruise (additional cost), which glides through Macquarie Harbour, visits the historic Sarah Island, and enters the World Heritage-listed wilderness, where you can stroll among ancient Huon pines.

In the afternoon, we’ll visit the rugged Ocean Beach, Tasmania’s longest stretch of sand, and breathe in some of the cleanest air on earth.

Overnight: Strahan

Cradle Mountain National Park is one of Tasmania’s most iconic destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage Area. We will explore its impressive alpine landscapes and glacial-carved wilderness while keeping an eye out for wombats, echidnas, and other native wildlife. Choose from a range of world-class walks, whether it’s the challenging climb to Marion’s Lookout, the scenic 6km Dove Lake Circuit, or a leisurely stroll to the historic Boatshed.

After soaking in the beauty of the park, we’ll journey north to Launceston, stopping in the town of Sheffield, famous for its striking murals.

Overnight: Launceston

In Launceston, explore the lovely Cataract Gorge, a natural haven along the South Esk River. This bushland reserve is excellent for seeing wallabies. Heading to the East Coast, continue to Larapuna/the Bay of Fires where you’ll learn about the deep spiritual connection between Palawa people and the land. Walk along pristine white sands with turquoise waters and vibrant orange boulders.

Tonight we’ll stay in the picturesque coastal town of St Helens.

Overnight: St Helens

Freycinet National Park, located on Tasmania’s East Coast, is a peninsula known for its extraordinary beaches, coastal forests, and striking pink granite mountains. This nature lover’s paradise offers a variety of hiking options, from the iconic Wineglass Bay Lookout to a rewarding trek down to the beach. For those seeking a challenge, the climb to the summit of Mt Amos provides breathtaking panoramic views, while a leisurely coastal walk to Honeymoon Bay offers a more relaxed experience.

We also visit the Cape Tourville Lighthouse, where sweeping views of the Tasman Sea showcase the rugged beauty of the coastline. Our day concludes with a scenic drive back to Nipaluna/Hobart along the picturesque Great Eastern Drive.

Overnight: Hobart

Discover Tasmania’s premier conservation and wildlife sanctuary, Bonorong, where you’ll encounter quolls, wombats, kangaroos, and the Tasmanian devil. Next, explore the colonial heritage village of Richmond before travelling through the pretty Coal River Valley wine region on our way to Hobart’s Wellington Park.

Kunanyi/Mount Wellington is the city’s spectacular nature-playground and features lush fern glades, towering eucalyptus forests, dramatic rock formations, and scenic walking trails leading to breathtaking lookouts. Our guide will share insights into this treasured landscape as we visit some of our favourite spots on “The Mountain”.

In the evening, relax and soak in Hobart’s charm at one of its historic pubs or restaurants.

Overnight: Hobart

Explore the dramatic coastal landscapes and rich convict history of Turrakana/the Tasman Peninsula. Home to Australia’s best-preserved convict settlement, the Port Arthur Historic Site is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed attraction where you’ll uncover Tasmania’s harsh convict past.

Later, from Remarkable Cave, we’ll embark on one of Tasmania’s finest short walks, leading to the striking sand dunes of Crescent Bay. This 2-3 hour return walk offers breathtaking coastal views. You’ll also visit Tasman Arch in Tasman National Park, where the towering sea cliffs, Australia’s highest, reveal the raw power of the Southern Ocean. In the afternoon, we’ll return to Hobart, marking the end of our Tasmanian adventure.
