Surf Bus Itinerary

Day 1: Brisbane – Gold Coast – Byron Bay

It’s an early start as the Australian Surf Bus picks you up from Brisbane and heads straight to the world-famous Kirra for your first surf lesson. After hitting the waves, grab lunch at one of the local spots on the Southern Gold Coast before jumping back on the bus and cruising down to Byron Bay.

Once camp is set up, stretch your legs with a hike to the iconic Byron Bay Lighthouse – the most easterly point in Australia. Keep your eyes peeled for whales, dolphins and koalas along the way, and stick around for one of the best sunsets on the coast. Back at camp, you’ll cook a healthy dinner together before winding down with video analysis of the day’s surf session.

Day 2: Byron Bay – Yamba

Start the day with a light breakfast before packing up and heading to the beach for your second surf lesson at the iconic ‘Pass’. You’ll surf through the morning, then break for lunch with free time to explore Byron’s vibrant surf town.

After lunch, jump back on the bus and cruise down to Yamba – a more remote coastal gem with incredible wildlife. Set up camp, cook a healthy dinner together, and review the morning’s surf footage. Once the sun goes down, you can kick back at camp or join your guide on a night walk to spot native Australian animals.

Day 3: Yamba – Red Rock

Fuel up with breakfast before heading to the beach for your third surf lesson at Yamba, where you’ll link up with some local legends who’ll guide you through the session. Afterwards, explore the tiny surf town and grab lunch before hopping back on the bus and making your way to the culturally significant site of Red Rock.

Here you’ll meet with the traditional custodians of the Gumbaynggirr Nation, who will share living techniques passed down over thousands of years. You’ll try stand-up paddleboarding – great for building your surf balance and a modern take on the Indigenous bark rafts once used to travel and hunt these waters. After the experience, set up camp and settle in for the evening at Red Rock. Cook a nutritious dinner together, then head out for another night of wildlife watching under the stars.

Day 4: Red Rock – Scotts Head

Enjoy a healthy breakfast before hitting the road to Scotts Head for your fourth surf lesson of the trip. Here you’ll be joined by Australian surfing legend Trent Munro for an incredible session at this sleepy surf town.

After the lesson, grab some lunch and set up camp for a chilled afternoon. Explore the small town of Scotts Head – dolphins are often spotted cruising through in the evening. Back at camp, cook a healthy dinner together, review the day’s surf footage and chat through the plan for tomorrow’s session.

Day 5: Scotts Head – Crescent Head – Seal Rocks

Back on the road this morning, heading to one of the best spots on the East Coast – Crescent Head. Surfers travel from all over the world to ride this famous long point break, and it’s the perfect way to cap off a week of lessons. You’ll be joined by local legend Steve from On Point Surf School for your final session.

After the lesson, grab some food before making your way to Seal Rocks – your last camping spot of the trip. The area is known for its incredible scenery and wildlife, so make the most of one final sunset at the headland before heading back to camp for dinner and a movie under the stars.

Day 6: Seal Rocks – Newcastle – Sydney

Time to slow things down as the trip comes to an end. Sleep in and soak up the spectacular Seal Rocks surroundings before enjoying one final breakfast together.

From there, cruise down to Newcastle for lunch, then make your way to Sydney for drop-off. Say goodbye to your new surf bus family – and don’t forget to stay in touch!
