Nguthungulli Julian Rocks is a marine biodiversity hotspot where tropical and temperate waters meet, creating a unique ecosystem teeming with marine life. You’ll likely encounter friendly sea turtles (green, hawksbill, and loggerhead), wobbegong sharks, graceful rays (including manta rays and eagle rays), and over 500 species of fish, from vibrant angelfish and parrotfish to large schools of trevally and kingfish. Seasonal visitors include leopard sharks in summer and grey nurse sharks in winter, while lucky snorkellers may even spot octopuses, moray eels, and cuttlefish hiding among the reefs. Dolphins also frequent the waters nearer the shore where you board the boat, and during whale season (April to October) you may even see some jumping Humpback Whales as you glide to the snorkel site.

A swimsuit and sun hat is all you’ll need to wear. You’ll be given stinger suits on arrival to wear while snorkelling as well as a snorkel, mask, and fins.

Meet the crew at 5 Marvell Street, Byron Bay. It’s super central and you can easily locate it using google maps. From there you’ll hop on a transfer to the Pass where the boat departs from.

Please bring your travel voucher as well as proof of ID, swimsuit, sun hat, water bottle, and a change of clothes.

If you are prone to seasickness we recommend purchasing some seasickness tablets from the pharmacy prior to your tour. The crew will have ginger seasickness tablets available to purchase at the counter in the store and onboard if you prefer the natural approach.

If weather or sea conditions are deemed unsuitable on the day of your tour, you will be notified via text or phone using the contact details provided. You will have the option to reschedule (subject to availability) or receive a full refund. Byron Bay Whale Watching strives to provide as much notice as possible; however, sudden changes in conditions may lead to last-minute cancellations. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

There is no single weather or sea condition that guarantees a tour cancellation. Instead, decisions are based on a combination of factors, including swell height and direction, wind speed and direction, and the likelihood of thunderstorms, ensuring both safety and smooth operations.

Up to 10 people can join this tour at one time.

All vessels are launched from The Pass, Byron Bay. This is a popular surfing beach in Byron Bay and it is always very crowded. Therefore, the crew will always take extreme care and caution with each vessel launched, and will ask you to pay close attention to all instructions throughout the entire trip, but especially during boarding.
