With the perfect mix of ocean and outback to pique your interest, in this Untamed Escapes adventure tour you’ll travel to Eyre Peninsula, where the roaring turquoise ocean and pristine beaches greet you. Savour the area’s renowned seafood, have a go at surfing, and take part in a meaningful experience by helping with a koala conservation initiative. Then, discover ancient lands in the Flinders Ranges and lose yourself amid gorges rich with wildlife, bushland bursting with history, and mountain ranges that date back 540 million years. Learn about Aboriginal culture, taking in the incredible creation stories and witnessing a Welcome to Country ceremony at Wilpena Pound as well as in Port Lincoln.

Every night, go off grid and sleep beneath a blanket of stars in a bush swag, surrounded by nature – the true Australian camping experience. You can also choose to join a swimming with wild sea lions tour and getting up close and personal with a Great White Shark for an extra added thrill.

Flinders Ranges & Eyre Peninsula Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Adelaide to Port Lincoln

Your adventure kicks off journeying from Adelaide to Wallaroo on the Yorke Peninsula, where you’ll board a ferry across the Spencer Gulf to the Eyre Peninsula. Relax during the 2 ½ hour voyage with a coffee from the onboard café, soaking in the scenic views as you cross the gulf.
Once in Lucky Bay, hop back on the bus to Port Lincoln, with a stop in Cowell for lunch and a chance to admire unique silo art. In Port Lincoln/Galinyala, you’ll be warmly welcomed with a traditional Welcome to Country ceremony by proud Barngarla woman Emmalene Richards.
After a brief visit to town, set up camp at Mikkira Station Koala Sanctuary, a private property home to the Eyre Peninsula’s only wild koala population, along with kangaroos and emus. Enjoy dinner with your new travel mates, then fall asleep under the stunning stars of the Milky Way.

Day 2: Coffin Bay

Spend the day exploring Coffin Bay and Port Lincoln. Take a hike along a portion of the Parnkalla Trail along the coast of the National Park,before unwinding on the beautiful white sand beaches surrounded by wildlife. You also have the option to put on some waders and take part in the Coffin Bay Oyster Farm Tour, since a visit to Coffin Bay wouldn’t be complete without sampling the area’s renowned oysters. Visitors wishing to get up close and personal with the aquatic life in Port Lincoln have the option of swimming with the amiable Australian sea lions or experiencing a Great White Shark encounter. These are optional extras that must be reserved directly with Calypso Star Charters as they are not part of the itinerary. After our final night together at camp at Mikkira Station, return to Port Lincoln and indulge in a little wine tasting at Boston Bay Wines.

Day 3: Port Lincoln & Surrounds

Australia is known for its surfing culture, so today, put on a wetsuit and join a two-hour learn-to-surf class at Fisheries Bay. The water here is calm and clear, making it a perfect spot for beginners to learn. If surfing isn’t your thing, you can swim or just lounge on the beach. Take a 14-kilometer scenic coastal drive along Whalers Way to see the stunning coastline and cliffs that have been sculpted for millions of years by the power of the Southern Ocean. Then, take part in a meaningful regeneration experience at Mikkira Station, supporting vital koala conservation efforts. Your collaboration with organizations here will have an impact on the preservation of the manna gum trees, which are a vital habitat for the koalas at Mikkira Station.

Day 4: Port Lincoln to Flinders Ranges

Today’s a longer journey, bidding farewell to the rugged beauty of the Eyre Peninsula. Travel towards Port Augusta, stopping along the way to admire impressive silo art and enjoy lunch. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, a landscape so rich in history that it inspired geologists to define a new era, the Ediacaran period. Known for its crystal-clear skies, this region offers some of the best stargazing in the Southern Hemisphere.

Stretch your legs on the Arkaroo Rock Trail, a culturally significant site for the Adnyamathanha people, where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the Chace Range. As evening approaches, set up camp at Wilpena Pound Resort, where you can unwind over dinner and spot shooting stars before rolling out your swag for the night.

Day 5: Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park

Start your day with a captivating sunrise over Wilpena Pound, followed by breakfast before meeting local Park Ranger and proud Adnyamathanha man, John from Ngai Nhina Yuras. After a warm Welcome to Country, join him for a guided walk through a landscape where the sun and moon seem to create magic. Listen to the fascinating stories of the Adnyamathanha people as you learn about their culture, traditions, Bush Mai (food), artefacts, and medicinal plants, culminating in a traditional cultural smoking ceremony.

Return to camp for lunch, and if the weather permits, cool off with a swim in the resort’s pool. With a deeper understanding of the region’s Aboriginal heritage, spend the afternoon further exploring the ancient landscapes of Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. You’ll have plenty of time to soak in the serenity of this remarkable place.

Day 6: Flinders Ranges to Adelaide

After packing up camp, begin your journey back, heading towards the Southern Flinders Ranges with a stop at the Jeff Morgan Gallery in the quaint town of Hawker. Along the way, admire stunning silo art and enjoy a visit to an iconic bakery in Wirrabara. Soak in panoramic views from Bluff Lookout, where the Spencer Gulf stretches out before you.

As you continue, you’ll travel through the picturesque Clare Valley wine region, stopping for a final lunch and wine tasting to celebrate the adventure. Arrive in Adelaide around 5 pm, completing the journey after travelling approximately 450 km.

Cancellation & Refund Policy: Refunds will be processed according to the following time frames.
Cancellations within 3 Days of the start date incur a 100.00% fee.
Between 4 Day and 14 Days incur a 50.00% fee.
Between 15 Days and 30 Days incur a 25.00% fee.
If you join a tour after departure or leave before completion, no refunds will be made.

Do I need to reconfirm my bookings?

All Untamed Escapes bookings must be reconfirmed 48 hours in advance by contacting your tour provider directly using the contact information listed on your tour voucher.

What should i do if my trip is cancelled due to bad weather?

You may either re-schedule directly with the supplier or you can email our support team on [email protected] and include your voucher number, name of product you booked, planned departure date and your contact details. Once you’ve emailed us, you can drop us a line at +61 2 5633 1149.

Do you book tours with flexible dates? If so, how long are they valid for?

Yes, we do have open dated/flexible tickets available. Most tour vouchers are valid for 12 months from date of purchase, however please be aware that you may be subject to supplier price fluctuations. All ticket validity is specified on the tour voucher. If you are unsure of the validity of your voucher, just ask one of our wonderful staff.

What do I do if I need help with an existing booking?

Some tours have extra costs and you should be aware that there may be added expenses. These expenses will differ for each service provider, but some of the more usual extras are: EMC tax, stinger suit hire, luggage storage, sleeping bag hire, linen hire, national park fee, food, insurance, accommodation, equipment hire, petrol levy, etc. We will alert you to extra costs to the extent reasonably practicable. However, you must also check with each individual service provider when you re-confirm your booking.

Do I need travel insurance?

We endorse the recommendation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that all travellers take out travel insurance. If you already have travel insurance, please understand that it is your responsibility to ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all of the adventure style travel you have booked with us.

Do you offer payment plans?

Absolutely, we understand that paying off a big trip in one go isn’t always that easy. We offer flexible payment plans to suit all types of travellers with zero interest or fee’s (minimum $100AUD deposit required).

How do I know if my trip is BYO?

Most tour vouchers will specify if your trip is BYO however we recommend asking your tour provider if your trip is BYO when you reconfirm your booking 48 hours prior to departure.
