Kakadu & Litchfield 3-Day Camping Adventure from Darwin From $1058pp

From croc-infested river cruises to starlit campsites, discover the raw, untamed beauty of Australia’s legendary Top End.

Picture yourself cruising the Mary River Wetlands as a saltwater crocodile slides silently through the water beside your boat, then climbing Ubirr Rock at dusk to watch the sun melt across the Nadab floodplains — ancient Aboriginal rock art glowing around you. That’s just day one.

Over three action-packed days, you’ll hike through monsoon rainforests to reach thundering waterfalls and hidden plunge pools in Kakadu, swim in gem-clear rock pools at Florence Falls and Wangi Falls in Litchfield, and stand in awe before termite mounds that have been standing longer than most human history. Evenings are spent around the campfire, swapping stories under a sky packed with stars.

This isn’t a tick-box tour. It’s a proper adventure through one of the planet’s most extraordinary corners, with expert guides, brilliant company, and memories that’ll stick with you for life.

Kakadu & Litchfield Camping Itinerary

Day 1: Darwin to Kakadu - Wetlands, Crocs & Sunset Magic

Your adventure begins with a thrilling wildlife cruise through the Mary River Wetlands, where saltwater crocs lurk beneath the surface and exotic birds fill the sky. Explore Kakadu’s culture and biodiversity at the Bowali Visitor Centre before heading to the infamous Cahills Crossing, where crocs and barramundi battle the current in an extraordinary natural spectacle.

As the light turns golden, ascend Ubirr Rock to witness jaw-dropping Aboriginal rock art and a breathtaking sunset over the Nadab floodplains. Settle into your safari tent at the bush campsite, share a communal dinner under the stars, and breathe in the outback air.

Driving Distance: 420km
Hiking: 1km loop, Grade 3 – flat pathways with a gradual climb to the summit viewpoint

Day 2: Kakadu's Waterfalls & Ancient Art - Hike, Swim, Explore

Rise early for a full day of adventure deep in Kakadu’s wild heart. Lace up your hiking boots and trek through lush monsoon rainforests to reach spectacular waterfalls and pristine plunge pools – choose from iconic spots like Jim Jim Falls, Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), or the hidden Motor Car Falls (weather and fitness permitting).

Afterwards, step back 20,000 years at Burrungkuy (Nourlangie Rock), where ancient Aboriginal rock art tells stories of culture and survival etched into the stone. Return to camp with tired legs and a full heart, swap stories around the campfire, and drift off under a vast, starlit outback sky.

Your final day brings you to the tropical playground of Litchfield National Park. Plunge into the crystal-clear swimming holes at Florence Falls, Buley Rockhole, or Wangi Falls, each tucked into lush rainforest surroundings, the perfect send-off from the outback.

Before the journey back to Darwin, marvel at the extraordinary Magnetic and Cathedral Termite Mounds, nature’s own skyscrapers built over centuries on the open savannah. You’ll roll back into the city with a full heart, sun-kissed skin, and stories you’ll be telling for years.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
