Kakadu National Park 60-Minute Scenic Flight from Jabiru From $259pp

Soar over ancient escarpments, thundering waterfalls and crocodile-filled floodplains. Kakadu is even more breathtaking from above.

Kakadu National Park is one of the world’s great wilderness areas, and nothing puts its sheer scale and drama into perspective quite like seeing it from the air. With a guaranteed window seat and fascinating live and recorded commentary, your 60-minute scenic flight from Jabiru takes you deep over a landscape that has been shaped over hundreds of millions of years.

Depending on when you visit, you’ll follow one of two seasonal flight paths, each showcasing Kakadu at its most spectacular. In the Wet Season, witness the full power of Jim Jim and Twin Falls thundering over the escarpment, track the ancient coastline past the Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) rock art site and peer into the hidden depths of Death Adder Gorge. In the Dry Season, follow the winding East Alligator River, spot saltwater crocodiles sunning on the riverbanks, and drift over the sweeping Magela floodplains.

Whichever path you fly, keep your eyes open for the iconic Crocodile Hotel below and the vast, untouched wilderness that makes Kakadu truly one of a kind. This is Australia at its most raw, rugged and unforgettable.

Flight Itinerary

Wet Season Flight Path (approx. Dec to May)

Departing Jabiru Airport, head south over the township for your first glimpse of the iconic Crocodile Hotel from above. The landscape shifts beneath you; savannah woodlands, tidal flats and sweeping wetlands give way to the dramatic sandstone escarpment that has stood over Kakadu’s lowlands for over 140 million years.

Trace the ancient coastline past the Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) rock art site, peer into the depths of Death Adder Gorge and on to the showstopper, Jim Jim and Twin Falls, thundering over the escarpment in full wet-season fury. Loop the falls before weaving back through monsoon forests and the double-tier cascade of Double Falls, returning to Jabiru.

Dry Season Flight Path (approx. Jun to Nov)

Departing Jabiru Airport, cross into Dinosaur Valley and fly through the Upper East Alligator Valley, where ancient fault lines and erosion-carved rock formations tell a story millions of years in the making. Follow the winding East Alligator River and keep your eyes on the banks, saltwater crocodiles are a common sight down below. Drift over the vast Magela floodplains before catching a final glimpse of the famous Crocodile Hotel and Jabiru township as you return to the airport.
