What animals will I see?

You’ll get the chance to see all kinds of birds like cassowary’s, emu’s, eagles, and kookaburras, as well as a selection of farm animals like miniature pigs, goats, and chickens. What time is the cruise?

The cruise departs Brisbane city centre at 9am and arrives at the sanctuary at 10:15am. The return cruise leaves at 1:30pm and arrives back in Brisbane at 2:45pm. The cruise is 70 minutes per journey.

Why is it called Lone Pine?

The sanctuary is named after the huge hoop pine that still stands today at the Ticket Entrance. It is said that the single pine tree used to be a location marker for guests visiting the sanctuary via the Brisbane River, mooring their boats at the ‘lone pine’. The tree was planted by Daniel Clarkson in 1867, when the property was a cotton farm.

What about animal welfare?

Lone Pine’s mission is to protect, respect and conserve their environment and wildlife, by educating and connecting people with nature. They are accredited by the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA), this means you can rest assured that the animals under their care are happy and healthy.

What happens if it’s raining, is the sanctuary still open?

Yes, this is an all-weather sanctuary, with plenty of undercover areas to allow for wet weather.
