CHANGES MADE BY US

Tour itinerary changes:
Due to unavoidable or extraordinary circumstances we may occasionally have to make a change to the itinerary. This could include the destination, route, mode of transport, accommodation, activities or inclusions. We would only make a change if it was absolutely necessary or unavoidable due to reasons such as safety concerns, extreme weather conditions, or local transport delays and cancellations. While we always endeavour to operate all Tours as described, we reserve the right to change the Tour itinerary if need be, which may be before or after the Tour starts. And the change we might have to make could either be a minor change or a significant change.

Minor changes:
We will occasionally need to make minor changes, such as changing an accommodation to another hotel/hostel/guesthouse of the same standard or better in the same destination, or changing the departure time of a local bus/train/flight, or changing an activity to another one of the same standard or better. While we will do our best to notify you of the change, this may not always be possible. In any circumstance we will not be liable to refund or compensate you for the minor change that we had to make if an appropriate alternative of similar or higher value is provided.

Significant changes before the tour stars:
If we have to make a significant change before the Tour starts, such as changing the route of the Tour due to extreme weather conditions, we will inform you as soon as possible. If this happens you will have 3 options:

(a) accept the proposed change, and if this results in a reduction in the quality or cost of the tour, you may be entitled to a Price reduction.
(b) reject the proposed change and cancel your booking with a full refund.
(c) reject the proposed change and cancel your booking and make an alternative booking or receive a credit that you can use to make another booking in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to visit Central America?

The best time to visit Central America is from December to April (the dry season). This peak season boasts plenty of sunshine making it an ideal time for exploring jungles and lounging on beaches. If you don’t mind getting a little morning shower, May through to November are quieter months to visit. During June and July, rain showers pause briefly, and Central American forests burst with green foliage.

Is Central America safe to travel?

While there are certain areas within Central America known for crime, these are limited and nowhere near where INTRO goes.

Central America is a very popular tourist destination and safe to travel to, with only the need for the usual commonsense precautions we recommend for all our destinations.

At INTRO we have not only chosen the most beautiful and fascinating areas of Central America but also places we know to be safe. Another benefit of travelling Central America as part of a guided group tour.

How demanding is the Acatenago overnight volcano hike, what do I need to do?

The Acatenango overnight volcano hike is EPIC but quite challenging, taking up to 7 hours to ascend, and requires a reasonably good level of fitness. The hike involves steep sections and rugged terrain, which can be demanding at high elevations. You will need some warm layers, a waterproof jacket, a good pair of trainers or hiking boots and travel insurance that covers hikes up to 4000m. This is usually an add-on to standard travel insurance. There is a chance you may be affected by the high altitude so we recommend checking with your GP if you can take Diamox (for altitude sickness) prior to your trip.

The volcano hike is included in the price of the tour, however you can choose not to do it if you don’t feel comfortable with it’s difficulty. Please let us know prior to your tour departure if you want to opt our and we will provide you alternative accommodation and a traditional chocolate making experience in Antigua for that night and following day as a substitute, at no extra cost.

If you choose to do the hike but do not make it all the way, we will ensure you get safely to alternative accommodation for the night, however this accommodation will be at an extra cost to you as it is on top of the hike costs already incurred by us.

If you have any more questions about the volcano hike or alternatives just contact us.

Do you need a visa to visit Central America?

You will need at least 6 months remaining validity and 2 blank pages in your passport. It’s also recommended to have onward travel booked after your trip finishes, as you may get asked for proof of this before crossing the border on the trip. We recommend checking with your local consulates for up-to-date visa requirements and costs.

How much spending money do I need for 2 - 5 weeks in Central America?

The Acatenango Overnight Volcano hike is EPIC but fairly challenging, taking up to 7 hours to ascend, and requires a reasonably good level of fitness. The hike involves steep sections and rugged terrain, which can be demanding at high elevations. You will need some warm layers, a waterproof jacket, a good pair of trainers or hiking boots and travel insurance that covers hikes up to 4000m. If so please let us know prior to your tour departure and we will provide you alternative accommodation in Antigua for that night as a substitute, at no extra cost.

If you choose to do it but do not make it all the way, we will ensure you get safely to alternative accommodation for the night, that may be an extra cost to you.

We stay at a mix of nice quality accommodations on this trip. Mostly twin share, traditional style 3-star hotels. One night we will split into smaller groups and stay at an authentic homestay with a Mayan family who speak little to no English. Despite the language barrier, our hosts will welcome us into their simple homes, share their customs, and teach us some Mayan and Spanish language. A truly unique experience.

When should I arrive for my tour?

It’s best to arrive on the actual start date. This is when most people arrive. There are no activities on the first day but the group gets together in the evening for a welcome dinner at around 7pm. Sometimes people like to arrive a day or two before the trip starts so they can do their own exploring or just have a bit of time to chill before all the fun begins.

Are flights included in the price?

Flights to and from Central America are not included in the price of the tour and will need to be booked separately. However if your tour has an internal flight as part of the itinerary, then this is included!

How many people will be in my group?

Our groups usually have around 12-16 people on them, usually aged between 18 to early 40’s. We get people from all over the world on our tours, so you’ll get to bond with a wide range of travellers who all share that same passion for adventure! As long as you have an appetite for adventure and are happy bonding with people of all backgrounds, you’ll fit in perfectly!

How can I get in touch with my group leader?

You will receive a ‘welcome email’ from your group leader approx. 2 weeks before your tour begins.

What if I'm travelling solo?

If you’re struggling to convince your friends to join you on an adventure, you’re not alone!

Travelling solo on a group tour can be one of the most exciting ways to experience a new destination, and you won’t have to wait around for your mates to be ready. You leave yourself open to meeting amazing people, making new friends, and can keep yourself and your onward travel plans flexible.

The majority of our group members are solo travellers, so joining one of our group tours is a great way to meet people and make friends. Before your trip starts we’ll put you in touch with the rest of your group so you can start chatting and get to know each other. And after the trip a lot of people continue travelling with the new friends they’ve made!

What happens after my trip?

A big part of the INTRO Travel difference is our after-trip support. Your group leader will spend enough time as needed to ensure you are totally comfortable and confident with where you’re going next. And can help organise and book whatever you need, including any transport, accommodation or trips you may want. We’ll also provide 24/7 support and advice after your trip, and will always be there to help when you need it.

Do I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips. You’ll need to show proof of your policy to your group leader upon arrival (on your phone or printed).

World Nomads travel insurance policies offer coverage for more than 150 activities. Get a quote, make a claim, or buy or extend your policy while on the road.

We endorse the recommendation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that all travellers take out travel insurance. If you already have Travel Insurance please understand that it is your responsibility to ensure that your Travel Insurance covers you for all of the adventure style travel you have booked with us.
