Frequently Asked Questions

What time do the tours depart?

Double Island Point generally can only be accessed by 4wd along the beach around the low tide and due to this departure time changes daily.

To see departure times of tours, simply initiate an online booking. When you select your preferred date, the departure time will be shown.

What can I take in the kayaks?

Keep it simple! A bottle of water, sunscreen and snacks are a good idea. Phones are often taken on tours however sometimes they do get damaged by getting wet. We recommend bringing a waterproof phone pouch as they are not provided on the tour. Taking your phone is at your own risk. Guides will take photos if they have appropriate cameras on the day.

All other items you bring along stay in the vehicles which are on the beach right where you depart for your kayak. These are safe – however please only bring what you think you need on the day.

Will I be in a single or double kayak?

All kayaks on this tour are Viking double sit on top kayaks – Highly stable and simple to use.

If your group is an uneven number; one person will often go with the guide or another participant. Kayak pairs and logistics are made by the guides at the location to best suit the group on the day.

What happens when the weather is bad?

With close to 15 years of experience operating safe and rewarding tours, you can be sure that your guides will only let the tour go ahead if the weather is suitable – including if it rains. If they find the weather not suitable for the tour to go ahead, they will contact you asap to find a more suitable time for you.

Generally, tours still operate in rain however typically rain in the tropics is of short duration. The tour will not operate in electrical storms, large swells and extreme wind.

How many people will be on my tour?

The average numbers for this kayaking tour are between 5-15 participants, up to 25 participants (12 double kayaks).

How often do you see dolphins?

Most days! The Marine Park is typically very quiet and ideal for dolphins with its nutrient rich waters fed by southern currents for lots of marine life including large schools of fish which are typical dolphin food.

The tour guides are highly experienced on the water for spotting dolphins and other marine life and the duration on the water being anywhere from 1.5-2 hours is generally a really good window to encounter them. However we cannot guarantee dolphin encounters on any given day. As this tour operates in a wild environment it is unfortunately not in our control.

We encourage all participants to keep an open mind in the wild on tour as it is a rewarding experience regardless. We hope everyone can take in all the unique and amazing highlights of the day. Typically dolphins are encountered as well as plenty of turtles and whales in season.

Will I get seasick?

It’s very rare to feel seasick in a kayak – however if you are prone to travel sickness, we recommend bringing some seasickness tablets with you. Usually, you have to begin the dosage before the trip. There are some great natural seasickness remedies too, such as ginger tablets and lemon and ginger tea.

Do I need Travel Insurance?

We endorse the recommendation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that all travelers take out travel insurance. If you already have Travel Insurance please understand that it is your responsibility to ensure that your Travel Insurance covers you for all of the adventure style travel you have booked with us.

World Nomads travel insurance policies offer coverage for more than 150 activities. Get a quote, make a claim, or buy or extend your policy while on the road.
