Frequently Asked Questions

What time do the tours depart?

Double Island Point generally can only be accessed by 4wd along the beach around the low tide and due to this departure time changes daily.

To see departure times of tours, simply initiate an online booking. When you select your preferred date, the departure time will be shown.

What is the best time of year to go?

The trips run all year round and Noosa is an ideal location all year round. Dolphins and turtles are encountered throughout the year and whales have been spotted from as early as May to November.

What will the wave size be?

The location of Double Island Point on its best days is well known as Australia’s longest wave. This is due to its long sandy point break with some really rewarding and spilling long rolling waves.

Surfing in the National Park we recommend being open minded on the waves and what to expect. We say this as it is such a remote wild location and sometimes hard to predict wave size, conditions and perfect waves on the day booked for your ability. If you require a specific size and quality of wave for the surfing to be rewarding we recommend surfing where you can see the waves before booking. eg. Noosa main beach or Byron Bay.

Surfing progression can always be achieved in all surf conditions and the fastest progression is achieved by surfers not going out in not only perfect conditions but those who go out and surf in all conditions.

What can I take out on the water?

While surfing it’s best not to take anything out on the water other than your surfing gear. As you are likely to fall in the water at some point, you’ll likely lose anything on your person.

All items you bring along stay in the vehicles which are on the beach right where you depart for your surf lesson. These are safe – however please only bring what you think you need on the day.

What happens when the weather is bad?

With close to 15 years of experience operating safe and rewarding tours, you can be sure that your guides will only let the tour go ahead if the weather is suitable – including if it rains. If they find the weather not suitable for the tour to go ahead, they will contact you asap to find a more suitable time for you.

Generally, tours still operate in rain however typically rain in the tropics is of short duration. The tour will not operate in electrical storms, large swells and extreme wind.

How many people will be on my tour?

The average numbers for this surfing tour are between 3-6 participants, with lessons at 1-8 participants per instructor.

How often do you see dolphins?

Most days! The Marine Park is typically very quiet and ideal for dolphins with its nutrient rich waters fed by southern currents for lots of marine life including large schools of fish which are typical dolphin food.

The tour guides are highly experienced on the water for spotting dolphins and other marine life and the duration on the water being anywhere from 1.5-2 hours is generally a really good window to encounter them. However we cannot guarantee dolphin encounters on any given day. As this tour operates in a wild environment it is unfortunately not in our control.

We encourage all participants to keep an open mind in the wild on tour as it is a rewarding experience regardless. We hope everyone can take in all the unique and amazing highlights of the day. Typically dolphins are encountered as well as plenty of turtles and whales in season.

Do I need Travel Insurance?

We endorse the recommendation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that all travelers take out travel insurance.
