Discover some of the world’s oldest and best-preserved Aboriginal rock art, spot crocodiles while boating through ancient wetlands, and immerse yourself in the customs and culture of the local Aboriginal people while staying in the incredible Kakadu National Park. Travel through some absolutely breathtaking landscapes, including pockets of rainforest teeming with rare native plants and wildlife known only to the Top End. After a pleasant day filled with culture and unparalleled panoramic views, you can unwind indoors in comfort. In the middle of the Australian outback, Kakadu’s well-known Cooinda Lodge offers luxurious accommodations in the form of air-conditioned retreat tents with communal bathrooms. If you prefer, you can upgrade to a lodge room with a TV and other creature amenities like an ensuite.

Overnight Kakadu National Park Retreat Itinerary

Day 1: Darwin to Kakadu National Park

Enjoy breathtaking landscapes as you travel 300km from Darwin to Kakadu National Park, with a few stops along the way. Your first being Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve, where you can observe a wide variety of native birds and wildlife found only in Australia’s Top End. You won’t want to miss the perfect picture opportunity at the Kakadu National Park welcome sign as you pass through the Wetlands Region. After stopping for a picnic lunch and perusing the artwork (and delicious coffee) at the Marruwuddi Gallery in Jabiru, travel south to the centre of Cooinda, your home for the night. Enjoy the famous 2-hour Yellow Water Cruise as the sun sets on Kakadu. The billabong stretches far during the summer season’s rainfall, making this excursion an absolute must-do for any visitor. Enjoy a fantastic and exclusive three-course meal highlighting the flavours local to the area before winding down for bed.

Day 2: Kakadu National Park to Darwin

Today, rise early surrounded by nature and head to Burrungkuy’s Nawurlandja lookout to witness an enchanting sunrise. After a hearty breakfast, visit Burrungkuy’s main rock art viewing galleries to take in some of Australia’s most renowned rock art. Then, take part in a cultural art experience on the grounds of the Warradjan Cultural Center, which highlights the southern and central sections of the park. Traditional owners and other members of the local community will lead this interactive art experience. Explore the cultural centre, which has a sizable gallery and gift shop, and indulge your palate with a picnic lunch in the lush tropical surroundings. Finally, it’s time to start the journey back to Darwin and make your way back through about 300 km of lush Australian bushlands. Return to Darwin by 6pm after a serene overnight retreat in Kakadu National Park’s wonderful landscape.

Cancellations within 1 Day of the start date incur a 100.00% fee.
Between 1 Day and 3 Days incur a 50.00% fee.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to reconfirm my bookings?

All Autopia bookings must be reconfirmed 48 hours in advance by contacting your tour provider directly using the contact information listed on your tour voucher.

What should i do if my trip is cancelled due to bad weather?

You may either re-schedule directly with the supplier or you can email our support team on [email protected] and include your voucher number, name of product you booked, planned departure date and your contact details. Once you’ve emailed us, you can drop us a line at +61 2 5633 1149.

Do you book tours with flexible dates? If so, how long are they valid for?

Yes, we do have open dated/flexible tickets available. Most tour vouchers are valid for 12 months from date of purchase, however please be aware that you may be subject to supplier price fluctuations. All ticket validity is specified on the tour voucher. If you are unsure of the validity of your voucher, just ask one of our wonderful staff.

What do I do if I need help with an existing booking?

Some tours have extra costs and you should be aware that there may be added expenses. These expenses will differ for each service provider, but some of the more usual extras are: EMC tax, stinger suit hire, luggage storage, sleeping bag hire, linen hire, national park fee, food, insurance, accommodation, equipment hire, petrol levy, etc. We will alert you to extra costs to the extent reasonably practicable. However, you must also check with each individual service provider when you re-confirm your booking.

Do I need travel insurance?

We endorse the recommendation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that all travellers take out travel insurance. If you already have travel insurance, please understand that it is your responsibility to ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all of the adventure style travel you have booked with us.

Do you offer payment plans?

Absolutely, we understand that paying off a big trip in one go isn’t always that easy. We offer flexible payment plans to suit all types of travellers with zero interest or fee’s (minimum $100AUD deposit required).

How do I know if my trip is BYO?

Most tour vouchers will specify if your trip is BYO however we recommend asking your tour provider if your trip is BYO when you reconfirm your booking 48 hours prior to departure.
