Some of the highlights of the day will leave you in awe. Visit Standley Chasm, a sacred Aboriginal gorge walk with towering red walls 60 metres high either side of you as you stroll. Enjoy Orminston Gorge’s beautiful landscape, and the mineral Ochre Pits many vivid colours. Treat yourself to a dip in the refreshing waters of Ellery Creek Big Hole to cool off from the heat of the Outback. Keep an eye out for wildlife, as the area serves as a refuge for native animals unique to the area such as the black footed rock wallaby.
You’ll be hiking roughly 3 – 4 km through diverse landscapes so have your walking boots ready. Can I get a pick-up from Alice Springs on the day of the tour?
Given the tour departs early from Alice Springs (between 6:00-6:30am), guests must arrive the day prior to the tour and stay 1-night. Once your Alice Springs accommodation is booked, please let the supplier know and they can arrange a pickup on the day of the tour. Airport to accommodation transfer pre and post tour is not included.
How fit do I need to be for this tour?
A minimum moderate to advanced level of fitness is required to complete the walks. The length of walks will be between 2km to 6km, over steep rocky sections and in direct sunlight and high humidity. Embarking on walks will be at the guide’s discretion to ensure the safety of guests. Therefore a medium/high level of fitness is required and a doctor’s certificate is required for people over 70 years (30 days prior to travel).
What kind of vehicle do we travel in for this tour?
You will be travelling in an all-terrain 4×4 range eco-tour bus, uniquely designed to handle the harshest of terrains and off-road tracks. The maximum number of passengers on these tours is 15-21 people, with a minimum requirement of 8 people to guarantee the departure.
What is the temperature like in the Northern Territory?
The weather in the Northern Territory can fluctuate and be extreme. It is not unheard of for temperatures to reach over 40+ degrees Celsius in the dry season and in the evening the temperature drops dramatically. Please ensure you have checked the average temperatures for the time of year you are travelling and have packed adequate clothing. In the event of rain or inclement weather, your experience will still go ahead, unless contacted by the provider.
